Pillow is how Python edits images without ever opening an editor: open, crop, resize, write text on top and save in another format, all from code. It opens files lazily, reading only the header (size, format, color mode) and leaving the pixels on disk until something actually needs them, and it draws text with real fonts, with anti-aliasing on the edges. At Sapiens it is the hand that writes on images: the timestamp on every frame of our picking sheets, the signature on our GIFs, the labels on our contact sheets. A fork of the 1995 PIL, kept alive by volunteers since 2010, under the MIT-CMU license.
