librosa is the toolbox behind music information retrieval in Python. To find the beat it first draws the sound as a spectrogram, a picture of the music with the bass at the bottom and the treble on top, and marks every place where that picture suddenly lights up: an attack, a new sound starting. Then it looks for the interval that repeats most between those attacks, which is the tempo in beats per minute, and places each beat on a grid. Editors use that grid to cut video right on the beat. On Sapiens it sets the beat grid for the reel, the music typography films and the dance clips; a four-minute track became 504 beats in about half a second. ISC licensed, pip install librosa.
